Nature Preschool

Drake will be starting a new adventure in the fall....
Nature Preschool!

The outdoor classroom has REAL Lincoln Logs for building!

And an indoor classroom for when Nature gets a bit too Nature-y for some kids (not our little outdoorsman, of course).

They also have a cool playground that's kind of Imitation Nature.

Exclamation point

Looks like I've been totally abusing the exclamation points lately (the last 3 posts), but it's just so sunny!! And warm!!

Peaches!!

Ewan's toes like peaches! (so does his face.)

Mission Accomplished

Drake decided that PAINTING your FEET is a really cool idea.

(He wanted to use the big paintbrush from his easel, of course.)

Pink toes don't seem to be hindering his web slinging, sword fighting, or ball throwing abilities. If anything it's making his feet a "yittle" bit faster.

So here's to hoping that he can continue to look and dress however he wants with the confidence of Spiderman.

Protest

I'm not really much of an activist, but something in the news this week got me ticked off, and I decided to stage a protest.

What could possibly have her so fired up, you wonder?

Nuclear meltdown?
Nigerian election results?
National debt?
Donald Trump?
Sleepy air-traffic controllers?

Nope.
Nail polish.
Seriously.

In case you missed it, here's the story:

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2011/04/11/jcrew-ad-showing-boy-pink-nail-polish-sparks-debate-gender-identity/

The thought that the color of my boys' toes might effect their relationship choices later (much, much later) in life is just silly.

So I ran out to the health food store to find some dibutyl phthalate free pink nail polish.

Eventually I realized that making the boys paint their toes pink was exactly the opposite point that I needed to make. So I painted my right foot pink hoping that Drake would think it was AWESOME, and ask to have his done too. Then I got distracted with diapers and naps and whatever. Eventually Drake noticed, and with a very skeptical look, asked "Mommy, WHAT did you DO?"
I asked if he wanted his done, and he said "NOOOOOOOOO"

Ewan did want his toes painted, but I told him that even though the polish came from the health food store, it probably shouldn't go in his mouth.

So here I am with one pink foot, preaching to the choir of five or so people that already would have happily let them paint their toenails pink.

This is why I'm not much of an activist.

At least now they know that there is pink nail polish available if the fancy strikes.

Food and Feet

Ewan seems to be the kind of guy that needs to experience things with his feet. That went really well at the beach, but is problematic with food.
That's food on the bottom of his foot
He's not sure this whole food thing is all it's cracked up to be (apple sauce feels pretty weird between the toes) but I won't be the least bit surprised when he announces that he needs to hike the Pacific Crest Trail barefoot so he can FEEL Nature.

Spiderman loves you

Yesterday, our resident Web Slinger noticed the similarity between this:

Just change the subject.

It's a Bird, it's a plane....

No, it's Spiderman wearing green shorts and snow boots and riding a Dora the Explorer bike.

It's totally understandable that you were confused.

Drake's deep thoughts

Drake is really wanting to make sense of this crazy world today.

He's been trying to sort out why sometimes the computer is buffering, but it has nothing to do with buffalo.
(how can that be?!?!)

Antelopes are confusing too:

Drake: "Antelopes live in North America."
Me: "yep. And Africa."
Drake : "and Anteaters eat ants"
Me: "yep"
Drake: "....what do antelopes eat?"

This language makes NO sense!!!

You asked for it:

Popo (that's Grandma Marti, not the police) asked Drake to make a special message for her on the blog (since he refuses to talk on the phone). So.....drumroll please...here it is:

Yes, chef

One of them is acting a bit like Gordon Ramsey lately, hopefully the other one is channeling Jamie Oliver.
I think I see a restaurant in our future....

You know you're a Washingtonian when...

You walk out the front door into the pouring rain and say "oh, look at the pretty sunshine!"
