Today was the big End Of The Year Party at Nature Preschool.

We made a "fruit cake" to share and got all dressed up to celebrate.

Unfortunately, even an amazing cape and a good pair of swim goggles can't

Great Grandpa Stewart is finally home on Molokai!!

Home again

Coming home to sunshine and blooming flowers sure helps to ease the Hawaii withdrawals.





The trip home was a slightly chaotic mad dash from Molokai to Maui to Oahu. Then a taxi ride to the hospital to fill the Great Grandparents in on all of the details of our busy week.




Great Grandpa Stewart worked hard at rehab all week, and made amazing progress. He's definitely going to be ready and waiting for a few holes of golf on our next visit!
After the hospital, we scurried back to the airport for a long and incredibly fussy flight home.

I might be calling a Do Over on Mother's Day.

I'm not completely sure that Great Grandma Irene would have approved of the bathing operations that took place in her kitchen today,
but, while the cat's away...

Kapunas

Kapuna:
an honored elder who has acquired enough life experience to become a family and community leader;
a practitioner of aloha (love), pono (righteousness), malama (caring), and spirituality;
teachers and caretakers of grandchildren.

Every Friday the Hotel Molokai plies the local Kapunas with free Mai Tais and Pupus while they play amazing traditional music right on the ocean while the sun sets.

(also some less traditional music)

A Little Bit of Everything

Today we did it ALL;




fake tattoos,





A drive out to the East Side to show Mima the Halawa Valley,





Sand castles at Halawa Beach Park,




Ice Cream at Dave's,





Splashing at the condo pool,





And to top it off, dinner at The Cookhouse listening to "Uncle Benny and Joe" play the Ukelele and washtub bass.

(Ewan is gnawing on a lamb bone while checking out the pretty girl at the next table.)

Today we introduced Mima to Molokai style golf.
The rules are:



Put as many people as possible in your cart,




Take a break when you need one,




Play as many holes as you want, in any order you want (today it was four),




And don't leave the keys in the ignition.

Progress on the Molokai House is pretty amazing; doors and windows are in, and the metal roof is going on today.

























Now we're just hangin' out waiting for Great Grandpa to fly home from Oahu on Friday.

Honolulu

We're all settled in Honolulu until Monday, then on to beautiful, quiet Molokai.
We were "upgraded" to the 14th floor (which is hotel-speak for keeping the annoying kids away from the (more annoying) drunken party animals.





We can see the ocean from up here!





On the agenda today is MORE ice cream, MORE beach, and short visits with Great Grandpa squeezed into the gaps of his busy therapy schedule.
