Our toes are cold, so vacation must be over.

Mahalo, Molokai! We'll be back.

Until then, dreaming of Shave Ice and Hot Bread.

Molokai Rules Golf

It's a little different here...

It's pretty much anything goes; skip a few holes, wear your flip flops, off-road your golf cart, and DEFINITELY, get the keiki in the game.

Finally!

Shave ice has been incredibly elusive on this tiny island.

A Living

You're probably wondering....who on earth is this Captain Tim and Leanna who are getting so much blog time lately?

These guys are amazing. They took us out whale watching on Wednesday, and since then have been showing us all about island life on Molokai.

Here's what it takes to make a living on Molokai:

You need to be a captain with a boat or two for fishing, whale watching, Costco runs to Maui, etc.

You need a 4x4 truck or two to take people on hikes to amazing places (any extra vehicles need to be rented out when not in use).

You also need a killer care-taking gig so you have a free place to live.

It's a good idea to raise a pig (this one is Rocky) so that you can sell young pigs for Luau.
At a baby's first birthday party on this island, you need to feed about 400 people, and the population on Molokai is 2/3 Keiki (kids) so you can really sell some pigs around here.

Rocki is hitching a ride to "Date Night" via trailer in this picture.

They are also adopted family to Lucy the Lamb, 6 chickens, a dog, and 2 cats (sound familiar?)

Oh, and you need to be a contractor (or at least really good at building things).

Pepeʻopae Bog

Pictures can't do this place justice! Captain Tim, Leanna, and Illio (that's Dog in Hawaiian) took us up to hike the bog - these are the highest sea cliffs in the world (which sounds super impressive, but really all except 4,000 feet is underwater). The top of the mountain is all bog (sounds crazy, but it's true).
Totally amazing.

Whales and a Pirate Ship

Of course it's impossible to get a good picture of a whale, but these guys got up close to check us out!!

That whale was THIS big!!

Drake and his new BFF Leanna check out a sunken pirate ship...with 10 cannon holes!!

Captain Daddy and Captain Tim "Talkin' Story".

Big Day!

Now it's time to set up camp and see about taking a lamb for a walk on the beach.

Seriously.

The view from Grandma's future bathtub.

The "road" to the lower 5.

It's REALLY windy.

Grandpa and Ewan supervise digging operations.

A certain very sweet little man told me recently; "Mommy, I yuv you more than Ice Cream!"

Mahalo, monkey. That's a YOT of
Yuv!"

Then, after a few day's reflection;
"And I yuv Baby more than shave ice!"
