Issue 588

You'd have to be a pretty serious comic aficionado to properly identify Drake's costume this Halloween...

This is not just ANY Spiderman...it's Fantastic Four Spiderman.

Haunted Ballet

Today we saw some spooky dancing witches, pumpkins, and skeletons.
It was totally Tacoma;
Almost free and slightly under-organized.
Cute.
Drake played it cool, but I caught him digging the show once or twice (there WAS a sword fight!)
Mostly he liked the lighting (BIG surprise there).

Ewan would like a ballerina of his very own, please.

Another Hat

Someone just caught Mommy making a NEW hat.

Hats

You can tell a lot about a guy from the hat he wears....

D!

The second most frequently used word in this house (right after WHY), is D! (exclamation point included, always).
"D!" Means Drake!
As in: Where is Drake, I need Drake, I want to do what Drake is doing.
Today he brought me D!'s boots, which he needed to wear for a expedition to the deepest darkest corners of the piano.

Theatre

Drake had his first theatre experience today! Mira took him to see Harold at the Seattle Children's Theatre.
He's not discussing it, but my sources say, it was a total hit!

Jubilee Punkin' Farm

We met up with sailing friends Kate, John & Sebastian, and Drake helped Seb search for the perfect pumpkin.

This farm has an incredible hay maze,

pony rides (NO thank you),

LOTS of mud,

BIG pigs,

And best of all....a trebuchet!! (aka Punkin' Flinger)

The Story of the Dinosaurs

By Drake:

First there were 6 dinosaurs, then there were lots, then there were volcanoes but the dinosaurs didn't know which way to go (Mommy drew the arrow). But there was a fence around the dinosaurs, so they couldn't get away....Maybe they need a gate (lower left).
Then the rain came to put out the fire. Then a black storm came but the dinosaurs were already bones....we need a fire truck!

Senior Portrait

OK, not quite yet, but seriously, this kid is growing up FAST!

Running to class

Drake jumps out of bed, packs his own snack and hustles me out the door for school now.

Silliness and Elan

Emily and Leon went to Teatro Zinzanni for Em's birthday last weekend. this was the sign at the entrance:

Funny.

Pending...

It's almost official (pending septic inspection)....Grandpa is moving closer!!!

This lot comes fully loaded with a garage full of toys for Grandpas and little boys!
Next step is designing a Dream House for Grandpa and Connie. (Assuming that it's possible for a hermit in a two room log cabin and a social butterfly from an amazing (BIG) four bedroom Craftsman to agree on the definition of Dream House.)

I see an upcoming summer spent camping under the peach trees and "helping" Grandpa build!!

In other construction news, the Molokai house looks like it's making amazing progress!

I'm dreaming of this blue sky and red dirt!
Our vacation is just around the corner (right after 3 birthdays, 2 Halloween costumes, and a visit from The Big Guy in the Red Suit).

Fun 'n Free

We're big fans of free fun lately, so we mounted an expedition downtown to check out "Broadway Center for the Arts' Fall Free For All".
As with everything Tacoma does, it was sort of disorganized and a little odd, but hey, it's free.

"Ukulele Ohana" at the Rialto Theater got us amped for our visit to our own Molokai Ohana.

Ewan dove enthusiastically into a Sensory Table full of coco hulls, and had so much fun, that eventually Drake decided to brave a New Experience.

For a second, anyway.

There was a large frog-man in a small house,

and a griffin/tortoise team offering dance lessons.

Then we were "decontaminated" by an odd group of large puppets in hazmat suits.

Then it was nap time.

Happy at Preschool

It was touch and go at first, but Nature Preschool is officially "fun" (he's still not giving away any details though).

Ewan RAN screaming into the arms of his One True Love, Miss Jennifer this morning at drop-off time.

Unfortunately for poor Miss Jennifer, he then promptly fell in love with two ladies at the gym, a checker at the grocery store, and a nice lady in the parking lot.

This may be the beginning of a pattern for Mr. Spontaneous....
