Volcano

Drake decided that we REALLY need to make a volcano. So here goes:

Unfortunately, I discovered a little late that the REAL motive here was to make red dirt to drive toy cars in (because I told him OVER A MONTH AGO that the pretty red dirt in Hawaii came from volcanic rock with lots of iron in it).

So...check back tomorrow for volcanic eruption and hopefully.....some sort of red dirt?

Eavesdropping

A few days ago I accidentally glanced at one of those "your child's developmental stages" type articles and was informed that to be ready for kindergarten, Drake should be having conversations with his peers.
(Actual take-turns-talking-type conversations? Really?)
Was this happening?
Based on the amount of interrupting and yelling "BUT I WANT TO TALK" that has been going on lately, it seemed doubtful.
Then this morning I overheard this conversation:

Oliver: "You look really fantastic!
Drake: "Thanks! Look at the superhero cape that my mommy made me!"
Oliver: "Wow! It has a D on the back for Drake!"
Drake: "Yeah, and it says POW and ZAP on the inside!"
Oliver: "It's really nice."

Really?

I knew there were going to be A LOT of things I would do for my kids.....but sucking the outside off of a Tootsie Roll Pop is a surprise.

It's just too "YICKY and it takes too YONG!"
(that's Licky, NOT Icky!)

Clean up

We got a couple of nice sunny-ish days last week to work on cleaning up our storm mess.

Rainy day

The best rainy day fun? Children's Museum!!

Happy Birthday Uncle Evan

Gotta love an establishment that is ok with free-range kids!
Of course Ewan had to abuse the system and sneak out the front door......while Gracie peacefully lounged in her stroller, which doesn't have (or need) a seatbelt.

Treasure, haircuts, and sunbeams

We found this treasure while cleaning up the yard after our big storm. It used to be a tomatillo.

Drake has a new "spikey" haircut that makes him look TOO darn grown up.

It's possible that you've lived in Washington too long when you are THIS suspicious of a sunbeam:
