It's genetic
Apparently the urge to stuff your family into a small vehicle and travel great distances is in the DNA;
This is Drake and Ewan's Great Grandpa Stewart with his Mommy, Daddy, and 4 brothers and sisters traveling across the country in 1936. In true Stewart fashion, this thing is totally "modified".
The boys' Great-Granddad Agard and his parents also made a cross-county motor trip, in 1935. I imagine that trip included hotels, though. Massachusetts-Tennessee-Arizona-California-Wyoming-Montana-Ontario-Massachusetts. Casa Grande, Yosemite, Lassen, Yellowstone, Glacier. And the 1935 World's Fair in San Diego. On my bucket list is a re-creation of that trip. But by camper.
